Story Factory is a not-for-profit creative writing organisation for young people in under-resourced communities. We run in-person workshops in Sydney, and online workshops across Australia. We build writing skills, confidence and creativity.

Our educators enter your classroom via Zoom and work with you to create a fun and meaningful writing environment, working through scaffolded activities that lead to a substantial piece of writing.

Our work is grounded in robust pedagogical frameworks that have been tried and tested over the last 10 years to ensure consistency of literacy outcomes and impacts for students of all ages, abilities and background.

All our digital workshops aim to improve young people's literacy and help them find their voice. We do this by establishing a space where young people feel safe and supported, and have permission to be creative. We use the magic of digital to get students excited to write.

We then work on two main pathways: we build students’ enjoyment of writing and storytelling and their skills in this area; and we help them generate a range of unique ideas which they share. These pathways support them to make effective critical and creative decisions, which leads to the students creating and sharing their very own piece of writing. This is often the best piece of writing they've ever done.

  • Our programs are provided free-of-charge to schools with an ICSEA under 1000. If you're not sure if this is you, get in touch.

  • Head to the My School website. Some specialist schools are not included on this site, but most of the schools that are not listed on My School are eligible for free workshops with us. 

  • Our vision is to see a world where all young people have a voice, so when availability allows, we also offer price points for schools with an ICSEA above 1000 who would like help improving student outcomes through creative writing. 

  • Yes. Our programs are always conducted live via a zoom call.

  • Absolutely, simply fill out our expression of interest form and someone from our team will be in touch to discuss options with you.

  • All of our staff have valid New South Wales Working With Children Checks.
